Services Provided.
Southwest Industries is open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday thorugh Friday. It is wheelchair accessible, and special jigs can be devised for consumers with physical handicaps. The following services are provided:
- Individual functional needs assessment.
- Social and work adjustment programs.
- Individual counseling.
- Group counseling.
- Activities of daily living instruction.
- Academic instruciton.
- Periodic progress reports and individual program plans.
- Interpreters for Spanish speaking and hearing impaired consumers.
- Recreation and social activities sponsored by The Arc.
- Job placement services; competitive employment.
Supportive services are provided through the Department of Rehabilitation, Medic-Cal sponsored speech therapy and Regional Center vendorized services (mobility training and behavioral specialists).
Consumers may learn the following work skills:
- operation of L-sealer
- drill press
- pressure dealer
- skin-pak
- small hand tools
- warehouse training
- assembly
- packaging
- inspection
- labeling
- stickering
- sorting
- collating
Admission Criteria Admission to Southwest Industries is limited to those who:
- Are over the age of 18 with developmental disabilities.
- Are independent in self-care skills.
- Are able to monitor their own medication.
- Are registered with Regional Center or Department of Rehabilitation.
- Are able to attend to work tasks with a 12:1 consumer/supervisor ratio.
- Are able to follow instructions and role models provided by line supervisor.
- Agree to follow workshop rules, regulations and grievance procedures.
- Do not exhibit self-abusive or aggressive behavior.
Accreditation
Southwest Industries is fully accredited by The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and is licensed by the Department of Rehabilitation, State of California.
