Southwest House is our residential facility, which is home to six adults with developmental disabilities. Located in a nice middle-class neighborhood in Torrance, the house was acquired by The Arc in 1977 and is in need of some remodeling.

The Rotary Club of South Bay – Sunrise has adopted the Southwest House as an ongoing service project. Last year the club repainted the interior of the house and put up a new fence in the back of the property.

In the summer of 2001, the club bgean assisting with the kitchen remodeling project. This project has been funded by generous donations from the families of our residents.

The first phase of the project was to expand the kitchen area by demolishing and existing wall and rebuilding a new one three feet back. In addition, a “window” has being created in the wall between the dining room and the kitchen. The second phase is the removal of existing cabinets and painting the walls, and the third phase will include replacing the cabinets and counter tops and a new floor!
