Momentum is gathering for the big 40th Gala on October 15th. If you have not sent in your reservations, please do so soon…the price goes up to $40 apiece after September 30th (we have changed the deadline from Sept. 15th).

  • Keepsake Program: We are still looking for old photos of historic events to include in our program (all photos will be returned). Please contact Judy at 310-532-6333, ext. 226, if you have any pictures to share.
  • Long-lost friends: We are also still looking for addresses for founders and Past Presidents of The Arc-South Bay; if you know of any, please contact Judy at 310-532-6333, ext. 226 or Michele at ext. 221.
  • Silent Auction: Boy, the items are coming in and it looks like we are in for an exciting auction. Recent additions to the “inventory” include tickets to Sea World, Disneyland, Knott’s, Magic Mountain, and the Long Beach Aquarium; dinners for two at Lawry’s The Prime Rib, Acapulco Restaurant, and Hof’s Hut; an Auction Pack of goodies to Mulligan’s Family Fun; private docent-led tours at the Cabrillo Marine Museum; Lakers tickets, a chocolate gift basket and MORE!! Don’t miss this exciting event! PS – I think we will even have a cockateil to auction! For a complete list of items updated weekly, visit our website at www.lafn.org/community/arcsobay and click on Fund Development.
  • Ads for Keepsake Program: We have steady stream of ads coming in – why not add yours? Remember, the deadline is September 30th to turn in your ad. Business card ads are $35, 1/4 page is $75, 1/2 page is $100 and full page is $150. For more information, call Judy at 310-532-6333, ext. 226.

Thanks to the Rotary Club of the South Bay, Southwest House has a new coat of paint inside. A core of volunteers from the club along with Board President Lyn O’Neil Burton and Arc staff Butch Mason and Judy Senter put in a good Saturday’s work painting the living room, hallway and three bedrooms. Hats off to Rotarians Jeff and Steve Smith, Lynda and Dick Cook, Steve Shneider, and Milt Rosen for their outstanding work.

Also deserving of our gratitude are the following members who rose to the occasion recently when Southwest Industries had a rush job to do and needed a few more helping hands: Bobbie Hedges, Marge Bernhardt, Laura Johnson, Delores LeCesne, Haru Blanchard, Lyn O’Neil Burton, Margret Pulver and Lorna Clark. Laura, Lyn and Bobbie came back a few weeks later to help get our 40th Anniversary invitations ready for mailing.
