Welcome to our new members… Marshall Walker (Walt Trucking), Mr. and Mrs. Richard Cane, Jr., and Evan Peters. Welcome aboard The Arc!
We are pleased to announce that The Arc-South Bay has received a $500 grant from Torrance Memorial Medical Center for printing and distribution of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome prevention pamphlets. The pamphlets will be distributed to South Bay Free Clinic and the WIC (Women, Infants, Children) program in the South Bay. According to the population served, the brochures will be available both in Spanish and English. This grant was available only to non-profit organizations in the South Bay who have volunteers who are employed by TMMC. Long-time member and volunteer Laura Johnson was our link to the grant (Arc volunteer and TMMC employee) – thank you very much, Laura, for all you do for the Arc.
On Saturday, April 25th, members of the South Bay Sunrise Rotary Club armed themselves with paint brushes and rollers and painted up a storm at our Adult Development Center-Gardena. In less than three hours, they had painted all the interior walls there were to paint and left a brighter facility for consumers and staff to come to Monday morning. Our tremendous thanks to the members of the Rotary for their donated work and a big Thank You to Supreme Paint in Redondo Beach for their donation of 20 gallons of mixed (matched) paint! Also, another thanks to the Gardena Valley News for running a photo collage of the event.
We so appreciate each of you who donated to the Arc recently in lieu of participating in the Human Race walkathon at Cal State Dominguez Hills. Due to the diligence of Arc Board Member Lyn Burton, and her cadre of callers, we were able to raise upwards of $600 in straight donations alone. Due to the diligence of our pledge-getters, we were able to raise another $600, this mainly due to the efforts of Mary Leuci, Program Manager at ADC-Hermosa Beach. Unfortunately, Mary contracted pneumonia and was unable to walk in the Race, but her efforts were not in vain, as her pledges still support the fundraiser.
VACANCY: We currently have two vacancies at our group home Southwest House in Torrance. This is a Level II home with males and females. Respite care may also be available during the vacancy period. For more information, call the Administration office at (310) 532-6333.
